About the Artist

Anita Nagurka, founder of Strands, is a self-taught jewelry designer who has been creating beaded jewelry for almost 20 years.

To be more precise, her interest in beads began in her pre-teen years in her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. She and her friend, Ellen,* would string little tiny seed beads into what they thought were works of art. Her childhood interest lay dormant for many years but was reignited when she was inspired by a San Francisco street vendor's beaded jewelry. With her “I can do that!” attitude, she resumed the craft and has been creating jewelry since then.

Except for occasional special purchases, all the jewelry on this site is handmade by Anita. She is attracted to the infinite combinations that are possible with different shapes, colors, textures & sizes of beads. Her favorite designs are those that incorporate many colors. She continually refines her techniques and has developed the kind of knowledge, skill, and quality of workmanship that comes only from years of experience.
